Costume Rules & Guidelines

Please use common sense... If you can’t take it on a plane, then it’s probably best to leave it at home! When planning your costume, keep in mind that GeekFest is a family-friendly event. Please note we cannot and will not pre-approve your props, but Security may need to check them at the door.

The Dos and Don'ts:

  • No real weapons, functioning or not (eg: firearms, blades, bows, crossbows, explosives, nunchuks, etc.)
  • No metal props! Props should be foam (if possible) or plastic.
  • No chains, whips, spikes, leashes, etc.
  • No hardwood props (baseball bats, bokken, etc.)
  • No rollerblades, rollerskates, skateboards, etc.
  • Nothing that emits smoke, flame, etc.
  • No aerosol cans or silly string

All fake/toy/prop guns must have an orange tip, whether glued plastic or painted.

The Boonshoft Museum reserves the right to confiscate any prop deemed dangerous and to eject any attendee who may be a danger to others. These rules apply to both general event attendees and costume contest entrants.

Be sure to follow the Boonshoft Museum Astronomy Department for updates.
