Looking for ways to build your college resume – and maybe even earn a few bucks* down the road? Why not train to work for the Education Department and learn some key skills along the way at Leaders In Training? From June 6 to June 10, spend a week accessing your inner performer as you learn just what goes into leading public programs at the Museum. During week two, from July 5-8, choose an education specialty and try your hand at Science Theater shows, master experiments in the Do Lab, or even work with some of our furry and scaly residents in the Live Animals Department. Start earning service hours right away by volunteering for Harry Potter Camp, Camp Invention or Discovery Camps during June and July.

Uncover hidden talents, dream about your future and explore possibilities at the Boonshoft Museum, where adventure and learning go hand in hand!

*Paid opportunities available for teens 14-17 only. You must complete LIT I and II and the requisite service hours with passing evaluations in order to qualify for paid positions.

Animal Lab

Learn techniques used by real zoologists. Field collection, microscopy, dissection and working with live animals and preserved specimens all give you a deeper understanding of the beauty and diversity of animal life. Learn the fine art of field and lab sketching as your record the week’s experiences in your lab notebook.

Backstage Pass

Go backstage and learn how to build your own museum exhibits and programs! You’ll meet museum experts and team up with classmates and staff to create a real museum exhibit for display on the floor.

Expedition: Science

Join us as we explore uncharted territories in the far reaches of planet Earth.  Every day, we will experience a different region by learning about the animals that live there and perform experiments to help us understand what life there is like.

Giants of Science

Explore a new scientific mind, their lives, and what they discovered each day. Learn how to build architecture around nature, navigate the stars, pull DNA from strawberries, look closely at insect’s wings, and learn about solar power. Put your thinking caps on and explore great minds.

Gamers Workshop 2.0

Take the next step in computer programming using Scratch, an easy-to-use programming language developed by MIT. Scratch is a free download so campers can show off their creations at home!

Robotics II: RoboZone

Master ‘bot building and build on programming skills with the VEX robotics and advanced NXT platforms. Tackle the treacherous slant board and compete against other teams’ robots. Whose design will triumph? You decide in this fast moving week.

Zookeeping 101

Do you have dreams of working in a zoo some day? Professional Zoo Keepers are scientists who are committed to providing the best care possible to the animals they are entrusted with. This hands-on camp will focus on the various science disciplines involved in animal husbandry including biology, nutrition, medicine, training, and exhibit design. Join museum staff for an interactive look at how our Live Animal Department cares for the 150 animals in our collection. And did we mention you will receive hands-on opportunities with the animals?
