Overview of Department
Our vision in the education department is to incorporate current technologies and events, promote community relations, and utilize best practices in education in order to encourage lifelong learning and to uphold the mission and vision of the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery.

Our dynamic team of teachers, scientists, performers, and informal educators uphold that vision by providing unique experiences for children and adults. Our visitors are often so engaged that they are surprised by how much they learned because they were having so much fun!

We are serious about serving the needs of our community and do so through providing quality short term and long term programming, conducting research in educational practices and science, and offering free programs/scholarships to serve youth with special financial needs.

Highlights of extra curricular programs are below

No Limits! Science for Kids
From September through May, children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade can meet once a week after school for science fun and excitement! Watch your child light up as they learn to build and program real working robots, experiment with magnets and electricity, take an insect safari, make their own inventions, and more. They’ll be having fun and you’ll know they’re getting a head start in their education.

A.S.C. (Afterschool Science Club)
Science is all about questions. Ask questions, seek answers, and have fun! Go behind-the- scenes at the Museum for hands-on learning experiences. Robotics, astronomy, animals, cooking, forensics, mummies, and beauty science are only a few of the topics we’ll cover. Have access to our staff for homework help, have live chats with scientists working around the world, learn to use science technologies, and more! Join A.S.C.

Kaleidoscope Program for Preschoolers
Give your child an educational head start with our science program specifically designed for children ages 3 to 5 years old. The Kaleidoscope program offers a pre-kindergarten curriculum with an emphasis on science and math. All areas of the Museum will be used as an extension to the classroom and hands on science and math experiments will be conducted in every class! Space is limited.

We offer a variety of other programming for school groups, scouts, homeschool groups, families, and individuals.
