Wise About Eyes I & II (grades Pre-K to 5)

Children will learn what they can do to keep their eyes healthy and safe as they explore their eyes and the precious gift of sight. This program explains how eyes function and shows how to protect and care for them. “Eye-popping” demonstrations and hands-on activities will provide the student with deeper insight into the world of vision and how to play and work safely. Sounds Like Science (grades K-4)

Ringa-linga-ling and boom-boom-boom! Let’s put some sound in the classroom. Students will learn about the science of sound and vibration. They will identify sounds, listen to tuning forks, play musical bottles, learn about molecules, meet Mr. Ear and make string telephones. Younger students will march in the kitchen band.

No Bones About It (grades 2-4)

With the help of a life-size skeleton, students will learn what makes us grow up safe, healthy and fit. Students will examine X-rays and bones and learn about their structure and function. Each student will make his/her own jointed skeleton.

Dinosaurs & Fossils (grades 2-4)

Students will visit the world of the dinosaurs, explore their environment, and understand the possible reasons for their extinction. They will learn about fossils and take home a copy of Ohio’s State fossil, the Trilobite.

Slimy Science (grades 1-5)

Put on your lab coats and learn first-hand about the scientific method. In two experiments, students will make polymers from glue and borax and will identify chemical and physical changes, observing color, gas, heating and cooling. Everyone takes home a gooey sample of slime.

Clear the Air (grades 2-6)

Introduce your students to the negative effects of tobacco in a new, dynamic way. This anti-smoking program utilizes dramatic role-playing and hands-on, interactive experiences. Emphasis will be on immediate and long-term effects of tobacco use, exposure to secondhand smoke and the tobacco industry’s marketing strategies

Beaks & Feet (grades 4-8 and Senior Citizens)

This hands-on introduction to ornithology teaches habits and habitats of birds by looking at their “beaks and feet.” Using bird calls, bird specimens and games, students will identify and classify our feathered friends.

Kids & Cultures (grades 2-6)

Take a unique look at other kids’ cultures, customs and traditions. While dressed in costume, students will gather information, practice map skills and share facts about their country. The class will handle artifacts and musical instruments from around the world. Each student will draw his/her country’s flag to take home.

Step Into the Past (grades 3-5 and Senior Citizens)

Do you remember when bustles were popular? Or when the 13-button pant was in vogue? This exhibit tells the history of Dayton through costumes. Students will model period clothing and accessories to form a human timeline. They will learn about people and events that played important roles in Dayton’s past. This program is a wonderful time of reflection for Seniors.

Amazing Adventures (grades 3-6)

Take a unique look at award-winning children’s books. Student groups will have read four of the following: Hatchet, Charlotte’s Web, Song and Dance Man, Lon Po Po, Whipping Boy, Sarah Plain and Tall, Owl Moon, or Jumanji. They then make these books and their characters come alive with costumes, props, and accessories.

Art for Adornment (grades 3-6)

(Great for large groups) Did you know that what you wear can be a work of art? Bing Davis, Dayton’s own master artist, has developed this special multi-cultural art class to show just how colorful and diverse we all can be! The students will use their imaginations and problem-solving skills to create a necklace to adorn the body.

Finding the Road to Freedom (grades 4-12)

History and hands-on activities help students understand the development and importance of the Underground Railroad and the flight of slaves during the 1800’s. Learn about the legends that follow the development of quilts in the freedom story.

Ohio’s Wildlife Wonders (grades 5-9 and Senior Citizens)

This advanced level exhibit will explore the wonders of Ohio’s native, endangered and extirpated wildlife. Students will learn about various species by observing and handling wildlife skulls, furs and taxidermist mounts. Predator/Prey relationships along with the survival and conservation of animal populations will also be discussed.

The Good, The Bad, and The Bugly (grades K –8 and Senior Citizens)

For every person on the planet there are 200 million bugs! Everyone is fascinated by bugs – insects and arachnids. Here, students search out and explore those that are beneficial or harmful to both humans and our environment while learning fun and helpful facts.

Native Americans of North America (grades K– 8 and Senior Citizens)

Participants will examine many historic artifacts, learn how climate and location influenced home building, food sources and tools. Students use their artistic skills for a Native American project.

Frames, Fans, and Frivolity (grades 1 to Senior Citizen)

(Great for large groups)

Creativity, symmetry and design are used along with crimped paper, cut frames, and a chest of artistic treasures. All together they form a unique way to unlock the right brain side of our personalities. A wonderful exhibit for groups of any age to express themselves and have a great time making a one-of-a-kind treasure.

Revved Robots (grades 4-7)

Students explore the world of robotics. Working in small groups, with an allotted amount of money, the students purchase parts to outfit their classmate as a robot. The robots are tested against one another in a recycling showdown. This class emphasizes teamwork and problem solving, two of the most important elements of science and engineering.

Rock Our World (grades 3-5)

This geologic exhibit will “rock your students’ world” with hands-on stations that will allow exploration of rocks, minerals, fossils and soils. The presentation provides a study of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks with additional activities that expand on geology in culture, art and entertainment.

Food, Fitness and Fun (grades 2-9)

They say we are what we eat! Students will see how to brighten their day with colorful foods and experience new fun aspects of eating, exercise and a healthy lifestyle. Through direction from the Children’s Medical Center, this exhibit will enlighten the students to an alarming trend in America -- obesity. Proper food choices, portion control and exercise will be offered as solutions to this problem.

Courting Justice (grades 4-7)

Socrates said, “Law is order, and good law is good order.” Students will discuss our Constitution, justice and their rights as citizens of the United States of America. After reveiwing these concepts, a mock trial will be held, bringing our laws to life and giving students a glimpse of our judicial system in action. This exhibit was developed with assistance from Porter, Wright, Morris, and Arthur, Attorneys and Counselors at Law, funded through the Estabrook Charitable Foundation.

T.R.A.S.H., Take Responsible Action at School & Home (grades 2- 5)

T.R.A.S.H. demonstrates the many processes of Recycling, Reducing and Reusing (the "3R's") and its effects on the planet and our environment. Students learn about renewable vs. non-renewable resources, categorize the types of recyclable materials, recognize the importance of landfills and the life cycles of various waste, and discover creative ways to recycle at home and in the classroom. Products, pictures and packaging are used to help students learn to make cents and sense by reusing. T.R.A.S.H. was developed in cooperation with and funded by the Montgomery County Solid Waste District.

Making Sense of Cents (grades 2-4)

program brought to you through the generosity of KeyBank. Did you know in 1792 Congress passed the Coinage Act and the first federal building, the U.S. Mint, was built in Philadelphia? Using fun facts, historical figures, and even magic tricks, young students will learn about finances and the importance of saving. We tend our gardens and plants to help them grow; now we need to tend to our finances!

It's Your Future-S.T.E.M.:

Science, technology, engineering and mathematics are the terms we hear daily that will bring new growth to our region. Exhibits-To-Go has developed a "table top" program to enhance science fairs, school functions and community group activities on these important topics. This program can be adapted age appropriately, and can include additional hands-on projects based on need. Suitable for multi-age & large groups.
